Situated just 30 minutes away from Ioannina, Deos Gorge derives its name from the awe-inspiring sensation it evokes. In Greek, “deos” means awe, and you will soon discover why. The river flows from September to June, with a significant surge in water volume during Easter, attributed to the snow melting in the majestic Lakmos mountain, also known as Peristeri.
To access the gorge, we embark on a short 15-minute hike. As we venture further, we encounter the first set of easy rappels in a relatively open space. As the journey progresses, the gorge becomes narrower and more formidable, captivating you with its breathtaking beauty.
This particular route boasts an array of waterfalls, each displaying unique beauty, with the most impressive being a staggering 30-meter waterfall. After descending this awe-inspiring natural wonder, you’ll find yourself rappelling down an 11-meter drop, leading you into a dimly lit chamber.
