As you descend into the water for the first time, you may take a moment to adjust to breathing underwater. However, within minutes, you will be captivated by the wonder of the underwater world. Scuba diving is surprisingly easy and exhilarating, and many participants find it difficult to leave the water after their first dive.
It’s important to note that the Discover Scuba Diving experience does not include certification. However, if you wish to continue with a certification course, your dive during this program will count as an extra experience towards obtaining the Open Water Certification.
During the course, you will learn basic safety guidelines and skills under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional. If you decide to make an open water dive, you will practice additional skills in shallow water to prepare for further adventures. You will:
All the necessary equipment for the Discover Scuba Diving experience is typically provided. This includes a mask, snorkel, fins, buoyancy compensating jacket, scuba tank, regulator for breathing, and instrumentation to monitor depth and air supply. Depending on the location of your program, you may also wear a scuba wetsuit or a weight system.
The diving spots for the Discover Scuba Diving program are carefully chosen to ensure easy accessibility for new divers and to showcase spectacular marine life.
Aegiali Bay is a beautiful sandy beach that serves as an ideal spot for beginner divers. Diving from the shore, you will be surrounded by warm waters that create a relaxed and tranquil atmosphere. The turquoise color and excellent visibility give you the sensation of diving in tropical waters. Aegiali Bay is home to a diverse range of marine life, including scorpion fish, hermit crabs, John Dorys, octopi, rainbow wrasse, bream, and triggerfish. The patterns created by the waves on the sand bed are a sight to behold, and you may even spot flounder fish, hermit crabs, and starfish in this area. The maximum depth at Aegiali Bay is around 6 meters.
Agios Pavlos, known as the “Caribbean Finger” due to its shape, is not only a beloved beach but also an excellent location for Discover Scuba Diving. With Nikouria Island acting as a barrier, the conditions underwater are ideal for inexperienced divers. You will enter the water from the shore, and the shallow part of the bay is predominantly sandy. This area allows divers to familiarize themselves with the diving equipment and the new underwater environment. The seabed features varying levels and skirts, creating an interesting landscape comprised of sand and Neptune grass (Posidonia Oceana). Here, you are likely to encounter cuttlefish swimming alongside their families, curious and smaller fish like rainbow wrasse, large black sponges, and other fascinating marine treasures. The presence of Neptune grass is an indicator of the pristine waters surrounding the dive sites.
Nikouria Caverns is a hidden gem among the dive sites and often a favorite among divers. This location features an open cavern that allows divers of all levels to appreciate its beauty. As you explore the cavern, you will be mesmerized by a burst of vibrant colors. The walls are adorned with bright purple, red, and yellow sponges, diverse corals, micro marine life, and large spiral worms. Within the cavern, there is a swim-through where you may spot lobsters hiding in the walls, as well as larger scorpion fish. The cavern’s unique shape creates a spectacular landscape that transitions seamlessly into the azure open sea. Bigger schools of damselfish and bream are often found surrounding this site. The abundance of Neptune grass further signifies the cleanliness of the surrounding waters.
The scuba diving program is available in multiple languages, including English, French, and German. It welcomes individuals of all fitness levels, making it accessible to everyone. The program operates from April to November, allowing ample opportunity to experience the underwater wonders of Amorgos.
