Embark on an extraordinary one-day hiking expedition, as you uncover a hidden gem that leads you to the summit of the legendary Mount Olympus. This route less traveled is, however, brimming with breathtaking beauty, allowing you to witness the magnificence of nature at every step. With each stride, you’ll be captivated by the awe-inspiring vistas that unfold before you, immersing yourself in a truly remarkable experience.

At 2,917 meters, Mytikas is the highest peak in Greece and the second tallest in the Balkans. It is the fabled hometown of legendary Greek gods, and  features 52 snow-capped peaks nearly all year long. Mount Olympus is often shrouded in mystifying clouds, creating an atmosphere of enchantment.

We begin our journey in Kalivia village, where we embark on an exhilarating 4×4 drive to Christakis mountain refuge. The first 20 kilometers follow a smooth tarmac road, then switch to a dirt road for another 22 kilometers, which takes roughly an hour to reach the mountain hut at 2,430 meters. Our expedition continues on foot for approximately 60 to 70 minutes, following the renowned E4 European Trail.

After crossing Skolio’s peak, we reach Skala, situated at an elevation of 2,912 meters. Atop Mount Olympus, which stands proudly at 2,918 meters, we ascend to Kakoskala and navigate our way to the summit.

The duration of this leg of the hike varies and depends on several factors, including the size of our group, participants’ experience levels, and overall fitness. It can range from 2 to 4 hours, guaranteeing a fulfilling and unforgettable adventure for all.

What To Bring For Mount Olympus Summit In A Single Day

• Hiking shoes are essential, providing sturdy support and grip for the varied terrain.

• Pack a bag to keep your personal things, such as a bottle of water to stay hydrated during the journey

• Opt for comfortable clothes made from quick-drying material, ensuring you stay comfortable during the trek and minimizing discomfort from sweat.

• Pack a long-sleeved T-shirt and a second T-shirt for layering, allowing you to customize your outfit according to changing weather situations on Mount Olympus.

• Don’t forget to include a fleece top to provide warmth in cooler temperatures during the ascent to the peak.

• Be prepared for unpredictable weather by bringing a windproof and waterproof jacket

• Consider using walking sticks for additional support and stability, although they are optional for the hike.

• Protect yourself from the sun’s rays by wearing a sunhat, sunglasses, and applying sunblock, safeguarding your skin and eyes from potential sun damage during the expedition to the summit of Mount Olympus.

Itinerary

• 8:00 we will meet at the central square of Kalivia Village, where you will gather with your guide. The briefing will take place here, and please note that it is only a 20-minute drive by car from Elassona city.
• 8:15 we will proceed with the transfer to the mountain hut Christakis, located at an altitude of 2,400 meters. The journey to the hut will take approximately 2 hours, traversing a dirt road.
• 09:30 Time to start hiking
• 11:30 we will reach the small Plateau of Kakoskala, situated at an elevation of 2,860 meters. Here, you will enjoy a snack and take a relaxing break.
• 13:00 we will have reached the apex of Mytikas, standing proudly at an altitude of 2,918 meters.
• 16:00 we will arrive back at the mountain hut Christakis, situated at an altitude of 2,400 meters.
• 17:00 we will reach Kalivia village, marking the end of the activity. Upon completion of the journey, you will have gained unforgettable memories and a sense of accomplishment.

• Whenever you cancel 4 days or earlier than the confirmed activity starting date, your fee will be refunded for the entire activity charge.
• In case of cancellation within 48 and 96 hours before the scheduled activity starting date, you'll get 50% reimbursed.
• Those who cancel 48 hours or beyond are considered last-minute cancellations. There will be no refunds
