Immerse yourself in the mythological wonders and natural beauty of Psiloritis, the mountain where Zeus was nurtured by the Kourites and the nymph Amalthea. Today, Psiloritis stands as a UNESCO-recognized Geopark since 2001, showcasing its geological marvels such as faults, fossils, caves, gorges, and plateaus. These breathtaking landscapes not only host a plethora of endemic species but have also shaped the rich culture of the local inhabitants.

Our adventure begins in Heraklion, where you’ll meet your knowledgeable guide and receive a brief introduction to the day’s excursion. From there, we set off towards the enchanting Livadi plateau. As we ascend the eastern slopes of Psiloritis, the mountainous provincial road treats us to awe-inspiring vistas of Heraklion and the vast expanse of the Cretan Sea. Soon, we reach Krousonas and embark on a dirt road that runs parallel to the magnificent Kroussonas Gorge, guiding us towards the plateau. The scenery unfolds in all its splendor, adorned with thousands of pear and apple trees that scatter the landscape. If you’re fortunate to visit during spring, you’ll witness these trees blooming in a spectacular display of colors. Our journey continues, leading us to the renowned Nida plateau, where we’ll have the opportunity to explore the sacred Idaion Andron, the very cave that sheltered the young Zeus. On our return, we make a captivating stop at Ancient Zominthos, a significant archaeological site discovered as recently as 1982, yet ranking among the most important findings on the island of Crete!

From there, we venture to the charming village of Anogia, where a delightful traditional meal awaits, providing a taste of the authentic local cuisine. Our return to Heraklion follows the picturesque provincial road that connects the city to Anogia, ensuring a scenic journey filled with captivating landscapes.
