Try our hand at the sport of archery
Embarking on a picturesque river-trek, we find ourselves alongside the enchanting stream of “Tsouvala,” which originates just below the main village of Melivoia on the southeastern slopes of Kissavos and gracefully winds its way towards the scenic beach of Velika.
Following a well-preserved path, identical to the one used by villagers in the past to access their cherished “chestnut orchards,” where the renowned chestnut of Melivoia once thrived, we have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the rich history of the area. If fortune smiles upon us, we may encounter a knowledgeable elder who will kindly open the doors to the local museum, offering valuable insights before we embark on our hiking adventure.
As we traverse through a verdant riverside forest, a true fairytale unfolds before us. Each step reveals charming bridges, inviting recreational areas, traditional mills, captivating stone fountains, and refreshing springs that adorn the trail at every turn. A highlight of our journey awaits further up the stream—an exquisite small waterfall cascades, casting a spellbinding allure. Along our hike, we encounter a hidden rock concealing the humble “Skete” (hut) of a devoted monk. We marvel at the grandeur of an imposing waterfall, listen to captivating local legends about the cat and dog, and capture the natural beauty through our lens, framing unforgettable pictures.
After approximately 2.5 hours of traversing this breathtaking trail, we cross the stream using the thrilling Flying Fox, adding an element of excitement to our adventure. To further test our skills and embrace the spirit of the surroundings, we engage in the ancient sport of archery before indulging in a delightful, nourishing picnic. The journey along the Tsouvala stream is a true testament to the splendor of nature and the rich tapestry of cultural heritage, leaving us with lasting memories and a profound connection to this enchanting region.
